Children's Picture Book illustrator and writer. Thanks to a brilliant bunch of tutors, and fellow alumni, I graduated with a distinction from the Cambridge School of Art (Anglia Ruskin) MA in Children's Book Illustration, Cambridge UK in February 2019, and thereafter signed with the delightful folk at Scallywag Press in May 2019.
Our first project together - "The Tale of the Whale" written by the admirably talented author Karen Swann, and illustrated by yours truly - will be in bookshops early 2021. (It tells the magical tale of a child and a whale who go on an ocean adventure together and in the process discover a sobering truth: that plastic pollution is destroying ocean life).
I'm excited that we are now in the process of a second book (text this time by me!).
I've discovered I have two voices in my work: one more comical and fast moving (character led), and the second more lyrical (more textured atmospheric work, suitable for older children and more thoughtful themes)...
Stories and Poetry
I've always had a interest in poetry, and love writing stories and verses for children (and adults). My poetry has been published in magazines, and I've also been involved in editing a buddhist poetry anthology "The Heart as Origami" (Rising Fire Press). (I seem to have an infinate capacity for creating doggerel: I'm often called upon to write comic verse for friend and family celebrations).
For many years I have taught or been involved in writing workshops as part of the "Wolf At The Door" team.
Mindfulness and Loving Kindness
Padmacandra (pronounced "Padmachandra") is a name that was given to me when I was Ordained as a Buddhist. I have taught meditation for many years, and hope that in some way this flavours or will flavour my illustration work for children.
